We have entered the next stage of the cryptocurrency revolution. On March 7, 2018, the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States issued a statement ordering online exchanges to comply with regulations pertaining to securities. It ordered online cryptocurrency exchanges to “consult with legal counsel to aid in their analysis of federal securities law issues and to contact SEC staff, as needed, for assistance in analyzing the application of the federal securities laws”*
At the time, I’m writing this course, Bitcoin to USD’s price has gone down by 10-15%.

While we may say that US SEC laws apply only to United States entities that are in their jurisdiction, similar things are happening in major markets. China, Korea, and Russia are all enacting legislation pertaining to this worldwide phenomenon.
Blockchain technology was envisioned to be a decentralized and censorship-proof liberating technology. Instead, it is becoming a centralized one.
