Gemini Exchange 101

Gemini describes itself as a licensed digital asset exchange and custodian. The exchange allows you to buy, sell, and store digital assets in a regulated, secure, and compliant manner. Founded in 2015 by the Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, it is one of the few cryptocurrency outfits that has secured the New York Bitlicense.
Their business model seeks to appeal more to Wall Street Broker types who dwell in New York. New York is known as a hot spot for Cryptocurrency regulation. In an interview, they claimed that they’d “rather ask permission first than ask for forgiveness“.
